Conduct in-vivo studies to characterize the pharmacokinetic (PK) properties of drugs and test compounds in accordance with client’s facility SOPs, Charles River policy and applicable Federal regulations.


  • Conduct activities to support non-clinical drug research using mice and rats.

  • Develop study protocols with input from supervisor.

  • Perform and execute in-life aspects of the studies, including but not limited to:

  • drug preparation,

  • drug administration, PO, IP, SC, IM and IV routes of administration

  • blood sampling, tail, catheters, submandibular, sublingual and jugular

  • body weights,

  • recording of clinical signs,

  • necropsy, and

  • post-mortem tissue collection.

  • Process blood samples (plasma, serum or whole blood) for storage and bioanalytical analysis.

  • Record detailed observations and data in an electronic laboratory notebook system.

  • Summarize experimental results for the supervisor, using a combination of spreadsheet and graphical formats.

  • Perform basic rodent surgical techniques including, but not limited to:

  • osmotic pump SC implantation,

  • catheterization of jugular vein, femoral artery, etc.

  • Participate in studies performing pharmacodynamic assessments.

  • Adhere to and support Charles River Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals initiative.

  • Comply with established safety policies, procedures and MSDS guidelines, including those related to chemicals, biohazards, and equipment operation.

  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.


Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Biology, Pharmacology or related field required.

Experience: Previous experience performing the essential responsibilities detailed above, including rodent handling and manipulation, drug administration and surgical techniques required.Experience with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, electronic notebook systems is required. Knowledge of/experience with GraphPad Prism is preferred.
