Dow Chemical Raw Materials Engineer in Marlborough, Massachusetts
The Dow Chemical Company has an opening for a Raw Materials Engineer located in Marlborough, MA.
Core responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain high-quality, low-cost, sustainable processes for manufacture of polymers and small molecules for use in spin on coatings for microlithographic applications.
Perform hands-on laboratory and pilot plant work, document clear instructions for manufacture of materials.
Prepare laboratory-scale quantities of polymers and small molecules.
Develop hypotheses if and when troubleshooting is necessary and design experiments to test the validity of those hypotheses.
Identify key process variables & their impact upon product performance of products using process FMEAs and designed experiments.
Write batch manufacturing instructions with input from development technicians and production operators.
Work with R&D, Analytical, Process Development Engineers, Quality Engineers, and Manufacturing.
Confirm that key filtration, ion exchange and mixing process variables critical to product performance are sufficiently controlled to meet product objectives.
Present technical training on new processes to Manufacturing, Engineering, & Quality organizations in Marlborough or other DOW locations.
As necessary, provide technical assistance to Quality, Sales and Business organization to resolve technical issues which arise during product development.
Define, direct and implement engineering studies as required to develop a manufacturing process for specific products in new technology areas.
Perform lab scale and pilot plant process investigations to identify new unit operations or equipment to advance the technologies available during development.
Direct batch manufacture in the lab or a production environment to generate process development data or satisfy sampling or order requirements.
Develop & maintain a project plan for product development.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
3 years of experience in the semiconductor, or chemical industry
3 years of hands-on experience in polymer / small molecule synthesis
Must have strong problem solving skills
Must have strong equipment skills: start-up, troubleshooting, optimization, return to service
Must be flexible and willing to learn new technologies.
Must work well with peers, subordinates and management.
Must have good oral and written communications skills.
Must be computer literate (Word, Excel).
A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
Experience in statistical design of experiments
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Extensive Quality Management experience: Supplier Audits, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Familiarity with SAP is a plus
