Staples Associate Creative Director in Framingham, Massachusetts



The Associate Creative Director is a key role within the newly formed Staples Creative Agency, responsible for lifting the brand and dramatically improving the communications effectiveness of Staples’ customer-facing communications with a heavy mix of digital, direct response and brand-building vehicles.

The Associate Creative Director will report to the Chief Creative Officer and will work closely with the marketing teams to guarantee that the Staples brand purpose (“Helping the world work better”) is infused into every form of communication with strong calls to action. The Associate Creative Director will collaborate strongly across various cross functional teams, including merchandising, retail, b2b and site, ensuring they have a solid pulse on the business and are knowledgeable about the range of Staples products and services available now and in the future.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• In conjunction with the Creative Director, strive to understand the essential dynamics, strategies and drivers of the business

• Provide creative concepting and execution of integrated campaigns that are effective across digital, print and social mediums

• Lead by example to deliver award-winning (and award-worthy) work that inspires and generates measurable business returns for Staples

• Be able to recognize and advance big ideas and opportunities for innovation

• Drive and inspire creative thinking across the team; provide brand and creative leadership to the team and agency partners

• Proactively seek to stay ahead of trends, market developments, technology and creative and business opportunities to continuously raise the bar

• Partner with cross-functional internal and external creative teams to tell Staples stories in amazing ways and translate them across a broad mix of media/platforms

• Bring maximum value to Staples by fully leveraging partnerships with internal and external agency expertise

• Collaborate with leadership in hiring, mentoring and guiding creative team members to fulfill their full potential

• Develop and cultivate relationships with Project Management and Creative Execution teams that fosters collaboration and demand the same from your team

• Work with Creative Director to inspire and foster team commitment, pride and most importantly trust in order to facilitate cooperation and motivation among staff to accomplish our goals

Education/Experience Equivalent (minimum requirements)

• 7-9 years of direct/indirect management for high performing teams

• Minimum of 3 years of agency experience

• Bachelor’s Degree

Professional Knowledge/Experience

• Strong knowledge of digital landscape & emerging technologies

• Ability and willingness to recognize the best creative solution

• Understand the value of fostering a customer-led approach combined with the ability to drive strong creative work and how to produce it

• Business strategy, communication, presentation and networking skills

• Demonstrated business and emotional maturity that fosters accountability, sense of urgency and communication throughout the creative team

• Gravitas and charm; have presence in a room; ability to earn respect and influence others

• Deep understanding of human behavior with digital commerce and retail experiences

• Strong technical skills with understanding of front-end development process with familiarity of HTML, HTML5, CSS Javascript

• Experienced in leading and inspiring integrated creative teams (print, digital, etc.)

• Strong creative brainstorming, ideation and related problem solving skills

• Proven track record as an innovative and big picture thinker that demonstrates comfort taking risks and encourages their team members to do the same

• Outstanding verbal & written communication skills

• Highly organized with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

• Ability to easily adapt to change with experience in an office going through rapid change

• Experienced in leading a creative team in an agency environment
