InterSystems Technical Writer in Cambridge, Massachusetts

As a Technical Writer at InterSystems, you will create reusable documentation to help a variety of audiences easily understand and learn to use InterSystems’ software products. You will collaborate with software developers as well as your colleagues throughout the Learning Services department while you research, learn new technology, write and edit.

As a Writer, you will:

  • Take long-term responsibility for a specific, significant subject area. Attend development project meetings and convey status to teammates

  • Write and edit clear product documentation to describe new features and enhancements at each release.

  • Produce coherent, well-structured documentation that defines use cases and describes how to solve problems associated with use cases

  • Update and improve documentation quality, process, productivity, and presentation

  • Collaborate with the online learning and classroom training groups to maximize reuse for multiple audiences. Collaborate in the development of training materials

  • Research difficult and unfamiliar technical material from diverse sources

  • Consult stakeholders to determine and set an appropriate schedule for documentation projects. Set priorities, triage incoming tasks, and rebalance your workload

  • Raise documentation and cross-departmental issues, and actively take initiative to resolve concerns

  • Learn about InterSystems products to develop multiple areas of expertise

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in using a variety of computer systems and software

  • Effective written communication and love of writing process

  • Initiative and self-direction in the workplace

  • Willingness to learn new concepts and about new technologies

  • This position is open to writers of all levels of experience


  • Software used to develop business or medical workflow systems

  • IHE, HL7 or FHIR

  • SQL

  • Object-oriented programming

  • Document-oriented databases

  • Cloud-base provisioning/deployment and application containerization

Previous work experience of the following types is a plus:

  • As a developer

  • Writing tutorials or programming examples

  • Developing content for online learning

  • As a technical editor, or with reviews by a technical editor
