PROGRAM SPECIALIST, Office of the Provost-MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program, to be responsible for the advisement and guidance activities of the program and serve as a liaison between the program and staff of target schools and community partners. Specific responsibilities will include recruiting participants for the program, assisting in the selection of program participants, conducting student interviews, orientation and training activities, conducting advising services/activities and maintaining appropriate case data, organizing college visits and career exploration workshops/visits, maintaining a network of ancillary support through interaction with personnel from the target schools and various community agencies, assisting with the selection and supervision of seasonal residential staff, assisting with the orientation and development of staff, and overseeing the planning and implementation of cultural/recreational workshops and field trips. Will report to the Upward Bound director.
REQUIRED: at least two years of experience in youth services programming and/or in personnel, academia, college admissions, financial aid, career advising, or residence life; and demonstrated concern for and understanding of the educational needs/challenges of low-income, first-generation, disabled, and under-represented students and their families. Familiarity with the human services delivery network of Cambridge would be helpful. A bachelor's degree in education or social science is preferred. Job #15814
