Department:Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Center for Brain SciencePre-Employment Screening:Identity Schedule:Monday-Friday, 9am - 5pmJob Function:Finance Duties & Responsibilities:This position is designed to strengthen administrative support for faculty with funds in both the Center for Brain Science and Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The position will be split evenly between the two, and will report to the Associate Director of Finance in MCB and the Center Administrator in CBS. This position is responsible for pre- and post-award management for a flexible portfolio of sponsored and non-sponsored research funding. Primary responsibilities include: proposal and budget development; University and sponsor policy and guideline interpretation for faculty members and their lab personnel; forecasting expenses and providing regular as well as ad hoc financial reports to Department and faculty; analyzing faculty and lab research needs and financial capacity to align the two; making recommendations regarding spending rates; and monitoring accounts to ensure compliance with federal, University and/or sponsor regulations. Other duties include, but are not limited to: acting as effort report coordinator; approving payments up to certain dollar thresholds; training lab managers and other lab personnel on sponsored research policies and procedures; assist in implementing policies at the department level and recommend process improvements; help to resolve issues related to research funding and related to migrating and/or transferring labs. This position will be a liaison to Office of Sponsored Programs, Research Administrative Services, and other relevant offices in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard Medical School and its Affiliated Hospitals.
