The Advance Manufacturing Engineer plays a critical role in Hill-Rom’s new product development process. The AME represents Hill-Rom’s Global Supply Chain Manufacturing function on product development core teams and is responsible for all aspects of manufacturing process planning and development for new products. This position also supports manufacturing process improvement and cost reduction efforts within Hill-Rom’s Global Supply Chain organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: – Other duties may be assigned:

  • Translate Hill-Rom’s Global Supply Chain and Manufacturing strategies into clear, actionable inputs to new product development projects.

  • Responsible for developing and adhering to all manufacturing financial commitments in the new product business case including product cost estimates and manufacturing process CAPEX & OPEX budgets.

  • Responsible for planning, project management and leadership of all manufacturing activities in support of new product development including the management of extended manufacturing team resources.

  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure product designs are cost effective, robust and manufacturable with high levels of quality.

  • Develop and implement economical, repeatable manufacturing processes for new and existing products.

  • Perform Return-On-Investment analyses of manufacturing process alternatives.

  • Responsible for product quality, including resolving quality problems, validating processes, developing and implementing process controls and inspection procedures using PFMEA and other risk management methodologies.

  • Responsible for work instructions, job instructions, labor standards and routings, and line balancing to meet required production rates.

  • Responsible for ensuring manufacturing processes are compliant with all applicable regulations and Hill-Rom quality system requirements.

  • Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies into production through use of Production Preparation Process (3P) tools.

  • Ensure manufacturing processes are compliant with all applicable safety standards and policies.


  • BS Degree in Engineering required. Masters degree in Engineering or Business preferred.

  • 7-10 years’ experience in Engineering roles related to manufacturing or product design.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a regulated manufacturing industry. Medical device mfg experience preferred.

  • Solid understanding of ERP systems including BOM structure, labor routing and reporting structures.

  • Working knowledge of the following manufacturing processes: printed circuit board manufacture, cable and wire processing, metal fabrication, welding (GMAW, GTAW, RSW), metal finishing, product assembly, plastic injection molding, blow molding, applied robotics, roll forming, casting.

  • Competent in applied statistics including SPC, process capability analysis and statistical process validation techniques.

  • Basic understanding of electric circuits and control theory.

  • Must be able/willing to travel internationally and domestically.
