The candidate will get opportunity to work in the development of new materials and polymers for medical market. The job will entail hands-on work, problem solving, and working in a team of other scientists and Engineers within LLS. Experience in polymer synthesis, polyurethane chemistry and polymer characterization is beneficial.
What you will do:
Develop a deep understanding of Lubrizol LifeSciences’ line of thermoplastic polyurethanes, understand polyurethane chemistry. Perform structure-property analysis and apply the knowledge towards developing new applications.
Hands on polymer synthesis in the lab. Work with group of technicians on polymer synthesis, processing, testing and characterization.
Maintain good lab/chemical hygiene and follow safety procedures.
Work with other scientists to support existing products and invent new chemistries to expand Lubrizol’s product portfolio & file patents where applicable.
Collaborate with other scientists & application engineers within LifeScience on various research projects. Be effective in sharing data/information and writing technical reports.
Work on scale-up of synthesis from lab scale to pilot scale and then to manufacturing. Perform validations on new products in manufacturing. Write validation protocols & reports.
Work with other departments within the manufacturing facility such as Quality, maintenance and Operations.
Maintain lab records and documents per ISO standards.
Prepare presentations & present at periodic management reviews as well as R&D Technical reviews.
What you need:
PhD in polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer science, chemical engineering with 0-2 years’ experience.
Experience in polyurethane synthesis is desirable.
Experience with polymer based drug delivery systems, surface modification & functionalization techniques is desirable.
Understanding of structure property relationship of polymers. Familiarity with PEG based chemistries is a plus.
Experience with at least some basic polymer analytic methods, e.g. GPC, NMR, LC, GC, MS, DSC, DMA, FTIR, and optical microscopy.
Experience in polymer processing techniques is a plus
Demonstrated history of scientific publications, patent writing and or presentations.
Problem solving attitude and attention to details.
Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be self-motivated & results oriented.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Must be a team player and possess technical report writing skills.
Proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Office, Chemdraw, statistical analysis, SharePoint.
