Job Responsibilities: The purposes of this position are to perform school department bookkeeping operations including vendor records maintenance, assist with purchases, process payments, order status determination, the verification of information accuracy and other business office work. A bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control. All actions should adhere to the policies set by the School Committee and District Administration. S/he processes invoices for payment, checks items ordered against items received, verifies invoice accuracy and compiles invoices into warrants for approval and payment. Stamping and recording of account charges must be verified before processing the Warrant. S/he confers directly with department head, other school staff, vendors and others to verify or confirm data and information accuracy. S/he performs some routine business office correspondence such as distributing purchase orders, faxes or mails tax exempt forms to vendors. Performs other specific business office tasks such as the availability of postage machine funds and the request for stamps throughout the school system. Handles requisitions and process school department’s open business accounts as purchases are made with local vendors such as Staple and Costco; Maintains spreadsheets in preparation of accounting summaries and year end calculations. Performs similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates. This is a provisional Civil Service position. If selected, you would be required to take the next civil service clerical exam and score within the top three scores. Per M.G.L., Ch. 31, “no provisional employment in a position shall be authorized, approved, or continued for more than thirty days following a certification from an eligible list if such list contains the names of three persons eligible for and willing to accept appointment to such position”. Qualifications: Applicants for this position must have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED, have three years of office experience. Must successfully pass a Criminal Offenders Record Information (CORI), background check, fingerprinting and pre-employment physical with drug & alcohol test. Fingerprinting is done at selected candidate’s expense.

Rate of pay: $44,222 yr. Excellent benefits Hours: 12 month position
