Job Description

SOFTWARE TEAM LEAD, edX, to join the business engineering team in designing and building new technology for edX’s open source learning platform. The work will be used in production by premier educational institutions and learners from all over the world. Will use modern tooling like Django, React, and GitHub to build software that is scalable, reliable, and easy to use. This is a management role in which you’ll also write code. Responsibilities include providing hands-on leadership to a team of two to four software engineers to efficiently design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software products; learning edX’s technology stack, participating in the Scrum process, and taking advantage of the continuous integration process to ship code as soon as it’s done; leading the team in finding and implementing material process improvements; establishing strong working relationships with a cross-functional team that includes engineers, architects, product management, and user experience experts; collaborating across organizational boundaries; and holding regular one-on-ones with direct reports, including providing coaching and mentoring.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: at least five years’ experience leading software development teams; deep understanding of the Agile mindset and development processes such as Scrum, experience building distributed SaaS platforms that cater to enterprise or institutional users, and excellent communication skills. Familiarity with Open Source web development framework, experience contributing to Open Source frameworks, experience with external customer management and managing offshore development teams and a B.S. in computer science would be plusses.
