About the Job
The Custom Analytics team engages in a wide variety of custom projects that delve into the vast data sets collected by Akamai’s servers to provide unique, global insights into what the data means. This position will allow you to work with Akamai’s threat, performance and internet topology data to solve customer directed problems. You will often need to quickly build prototype systems as proofs of concept and carry these projects into fully operationalized systems. The typical project will require you to develop, build, and use tools to collect, manipulate and analyze large data sets. You will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert in a variety of data and disciplines, as well communicate your expertise and findings to internal and external customers. Our projects will stretch your knowledge and assumptions. Ample opportunities abound to give you the opportunity to learn a new subject, technology, toolset, or even a new software language. The ideal candidate will be collegial, curious, agile, and demonstrate the ability to quickly learn and apply new skills in a dynamic and often vague environment.
Design systems to collect and process internet scale data.
Develop prototype systems to collect and demonstrate the value of new data sets.
Take prototype systems all the way to fully operationalized and deployed software systems.
Focus on designing and delivering reliable, scalable, and resilient software.
Manage and maintain multiple Hadoop clusters to support data collection, generation, and analysis. * Communicate with internal and external customers and partners to share information and data
About the Team
Custom Analytics is a small team where agility, independence, insight, and curiosity are highly valued. We provide our customers answers to questions that span the global internet. This allows us to provide unique security, threat and networking analysis based on Akamai’s global presence.
Required Skills And Education
Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements:
5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or
3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or
Relevant experience and a PhD
5+ years of relevant software development experience
5+ years of experience developing software in Python or Java
3+ years experience with Linux/Unix environment
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver products
Knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, SSH, SSL and HTTP protocols
Responsible, motivated, and able to work with little supervision
Experience with BigData processing systems (Hadoop, Spark, HBase, etc) and principles (Map/Reduce, Stream Processing, etc)
Experience with other programming languages: C/C++, Perl, Scala, Shell, SQL
Experience developing in a full web stack
Container support systems such as Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes.
Adaptable and able to learn new techniques
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Self-driven and able to thrive on challenges
Network Engineering and/or Web Application Security experience
