Massachusetts Institute of Technology Career Development Specialist in Cambridge, Massachusetts
CAREER DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST, Global Education and Career Development Center (GECG)-Career Services Team, to assist with the instruction of F/ASIP (Freshmen/Alumni Summer Internship Program), a career development seminar; act as liaison to a targeted population of students; develop partnerships/collaborations with employers, faculty, and student organizations; and deliver a range of services to enhance career development and career competencies for students. GECD develops global-ready students by collaborating to help them develop and implement their educational and career plans and participate in global education experiences. Responsibilities include providing career development services such as career counseling, workshops, seminars, employment preparation, and course instruction; administering and interpreting self-assessment tools, e.g., Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator, StrengthsQuest, Computer-Assisted Career Guidance (CACG), and various card sorts; acting as liaison to one or more academic programs or industries, developing expertise, conducting needs assessments, and planning targeted programming and career-related materials/resources for assigned area; developing partnerships/collaborations with faculty, administrators, staff, student organizations, and employers; assisting with the coordination of career development projects/programs, including program planning, marketing and promotion, evaluation, reporting, coordinating staff, and logistics; and supporting F/ASIP by assisting with student recruitment, teaching assistant training, seminar instruction, mentor-student matching, and meeting with assigned students.
REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree and experience or a master’s degree with an emphasis on counseling, student affairs, human resource management, or related field; interest in and experience working with first-year students; and ability to interact effectively with students and faculty at a research institution. One year of experience in a career center or higher education setting related to career development and recruiting services preferred, as is experience providing academic counseling or knowledge of employer relations.
