Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Carr Center's Executive Director, the Staff Assistant will provide a broad range of administrative duties to support the Executive Director and the activities of the Carr Center.

  • May include calendar management, travel arrangements and reimbursements, drafting of correspondence, maintaining and ordering supplies, coordinating facilities related items for the Center such as phone/office moves.

  • This position is often the first impression many guests and visitors will have of the Carr Center for Human Rights.

  • A key function of this position is to provide exceptional customer service in welcoming guests and students to the Carr Center.

  • Serve as primary point of contact for greeting and responding to inquiries, assisting with direction to faculty or fellows' offices, requests for assistance, inquiries about Center events and activities.

  • Responsible for handling planning, implementation, communications and promotion for Center sponsored events including study groups, meetings and small conferences.

  • Coordinates event requirements including space reservations, food, A/V needs, advertisements, and materials.

  • Tracks RSVP's and compiles data on programs and event attendance.

  • Serves as primary point of contact for guest speakers and attendees.

  • May draft event descriptions, invitations, briefings and talking points.

  • May also take on project work and provide assistance in support of the mission of the Center.

Working hours: Monday through Friday, 9AM to 5PM

Skills:

Basic Qualification:

--At least one year of administrative experience.

Additional Qualifications:

--Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

--Interest in Human Rights Policy a plus.

--Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

--Strong written and verbal communications skills along with excellent planning and organization skills and a keen attention to detail.

--Ability to work with and relate well on many levels with staff, faculty and fellows, along with high-profile visitors, with poise and self-confidence.

--Proven ability to work independently and in a small collaborative team environment.

--Candidates must demonstrate good judgment, comfort in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and remain professional, flexible and non-flustered with frequent interruptions.

Pay Rate based on experience

Duration: Three month assignment, covering for maternity leave
