Job Description

ACCESS SERVICES MANAGER, DEWEY LIBRARY, MIT Libraries-Information Delivery and Library Access (ID&LA;), to manage access services in the Dewey Management and Social Sciences Library. Will oversee circulation, course reserves, collection maintenance, paging and delivery of materials, and financial transactions; coordinate and participate in the work of the service desks, scheduling and working closely with staff to establish work goals, ensuring efficiency and consistency in workflows, planning and coordinating activities and projects, and problem solving; assume full supervisory responsibilities include hiring, training, and performance management for fort FTE library assistants and student and temporary assistants; monitor safety and maintenance of facility and participate in planning and implementing improvements; serve as part of ID&LA; leadership by participating in strategic planning and assessment, department goal setting, and planning and implementing new technologies and service improvements; contribute expertise to local and system-wide initiatives, collaborations with staff across the organization, and on groups and committees; and develop productive working relationships with faculty, researchers, and academic and MIT departments to assess information needs and leverage library collections and services to those needs.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; a minimum of three years’ related experience; in-depth understanding and knowledge of library workflows; solid experience with automated library systems; excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills; strong knowledge of and commitment and ability to deliver high quality customer service; and ability to manage relationships and conflicts and interact effectively with a diverse group of people. Experience in an academic or research library and/or a customer service environment preferred, as is experience with Aleph. Job #15189-O
