Massachusetts Institute of Technology Access Services Assistant in Cambridge, Massachusetts
ACCESS SERVICES ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries, to assist with circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; physical delivery between MIT Libraries, including driving a van; and physical space management. Will interpret policies and procedures and provide information about access to collections and space; open and close the library and report facilities and safety incidents/issues; participate in book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, operating special equipment, sorting and delivering library materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; and perform some materials processing, working with staff to resolve problems. May participate on local and library-wide committees/teams/groups or projects and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED: minimum of six months’ direct/related experience; experience with automated library systems and standard software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendar); ability to generate reports and work with data; keenness for mastering new software, systems, and technology; strong interpersonal and communication skills; proven commitment to delivering high quality customer service; ability to work and contribute both independently and as an integral part of a service team and to work collaboratively and interact effectively with a diverse group of people; strong organizational skills; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; well-developed problem solving skills, including ability to identify problems, exercise sound decision-making in carrying out solutions, work under pressure, and tolerate ambiguity; initiative and flexibility for successfully adapting to and working creatively in a dynamic environment; valid driver’s license, ability to operate a motor vehicle, and good driving record; and the ability to lift 40 lbs, move boxes, shelve materials, push book trucks, and tolerate dust. The schedule, which is subject to change, is Tuesday to Thursday, 2:00 to 10:00 P.M.; and Saturday, 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M.
