Chewy UI Java Engineer in Boston, Massachusetts
Chewy is hiring a UI Java Engineer for our eCommerce Systems team in Boston, MA. You will deliver solutions and features for the leading online pet retailer in the US. Your initial assignment will be to build functionality for a number of departments in Chewy who interface with eCommerce Platform, which means 1000s of users with 24/7 operations. Making the interface easy to use, very reliable and extremely efficient are key objectives for this role.
What you\u0026#39;ll do:You will join an agile scrum team responsible for developing the user interface for Backoffice software used by 1000s of Chewy employees to manage customer call centers, order and shipment management, returns management and interface with operational analytics. This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across the entire business as you will be key in ensuring efficient operation Chewy’s ecommerce platform. You will collaborate with designers on all new initiatives to provide early feedback for best possible results. You will write simple and sustainable code which reflects a constant understanding of the business impacts.
What you\u0026#39;ll need:
Must understand the inner workings of HTTP/1.1
Wicket preferred, but any component-based framework would be a plus - JSF, Vaadin, etc.
Must have strong java knowledge
5+ years of experience in an object-oriented language such as Java or Scala
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Proficiency in Computer Science fundamentals – object oriented design, data structures, algorithm - design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
Experience mentoring and training the engineering community on complex technical issues
Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
Experience with designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available systems.
Strong background with modern tools and environments (e.g., XML, web services, version control systems, bug/issue tracking tools)
Have or (more importantly) be willing to learn deep domain knowledge in the area of retail e-commerce.
Bachelor\u0026#39;s degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics or Electrical Engineering
Experience with Scrum, XP or other agile methodologies a plus.
Good communication skills with both technical and business people.
Experience with data analysis/mining in large scale database environments a plus.
A working knowledge of optimization algorithms (e.g., linear programming) and mathematical modeling a plus.
