The Business

Our Retirement team combines expertise in retirement actuarial and compliance consulting to support global organizations worldwide in designing, managing, administering and communicating all types of retirement plans. Whether a client has a defined benefit pension or a defined contribution plan, we work with them to determine the right approach to design, funding, investing, governing and employee engagement that fits their specific goals.

The Benefits Advisory and Compliance Service (BAC) within Willi Towers Watson's Retirement line of business provides governance, operational, compliance, vendor and defined contribution consulting services for the full array of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans, as well as health and welfare plans. As such, we help clients fulfill their fiduciary obligations and achieve plan effectiveness.

The Role

As a Senior Analyst within BAC you will be responsible for supporting the work of senior BAC associates to consult to clients concerning their compliance and broader retirement plan issues. As a member of our team you will be interacting with HR, benefit and legal client contacts, vendors and internal relationship managers.

Performance Objectives:

Clients

  • Identify and communicate technical analysis to project teams

  • Prepare plan documentation (design, drafting, amendments, restatements, member booklets)

  • Draft routine and non-routine letters, reports and presentations

  • Consult with clients on issues of plan registration and fiduciary responsibility

  • Contribute to the resolution of clients’ legal and regulatory issues

  • Develop relationships with client contacts

  • Deliver work in accordance to project deadlines

  • Deliver on projects to meet or exceed client expectations

  • Increase efficiency within client teams by identifying ways to improve processes

Excellence

  • Assist in the tracking and interpretation of legal developments, both internally and with clients, on all aspects of the Income Tax Act (Canada) and pension benefits standards legislation, and other relevant laws as they affect employee benefit plans

  • Partner with leading legal, actuarial and financial consultants across Canada to create and apply our intellectual capital to consulting projects

  • Follow firm and line of business processes, protocols and quality standards in the development and deployment of solutions

People

  • Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrate natural ease and effectiveness when dealing with clients/colleagues at all levels

  • Mentor junior staff as appropriate

Financial

  • Meet chargeable hours targets

  • Contribute to sales and marketing efforts by drafting proposals and responding to RFPs

Job Requirements

The Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in employee benefits, retirement, or consulting with a focus on legal compliance. Prior experience in professional services firm or legal environment preferred

  • Proven experience successfully managing multiple projects and producing quality deliverables on time and within budget

  • The ability to see the 'big picture,' leveraging the resources of other groups to address the clients' business challenges

  • Experience and success delivering compliance solutions to corporate and not-for-profit organizations (e.g. plan governance, government filings, plan documentation).

  • Knowledge of ITA, pension benefits standards acts and other relevant laws and regulations affecting employee benefit plans

  • Comfortable interacting with and presenting to professionals at all levels within various organizations (internal and external clients, vendors, other consultants and counsel)

  • Proven ability to recognize and diagnose issues and work in teams to influence clients’ decision making

  • Undergraduate degree required; JD is a plus.
